TANKMEN
When I first started off as a Newgrounds animator, I participated in Pico day 2008 and created my own Tankmen and a little side universe to JohnnyUtah’s classic Tankmen series. In my 3 years as a Newgrounds animator I’ve always made a tankmen toon on Pico Day – but I’ve never been able to finish a Tankmen toon the way it was suppossed to be, I usually run out of time or find out my ideas just wont work.
2010 is my final Pico Day and features the final adventure of Tankmen Sarge, Visor, and Goggles. As I’m leaving Newgrounds and working on my own stuff for my YouTube channel, I’m letting Sarge, Visor and Goggles go out with a bang.
TANKMEN: GIVE US THIS DAY, OUR DAILY LEAD
This was the very first episode I did, it’s cocky, halfassed, suffers from bad pacing and quite frankly… a dumb ending (ran out of time). It was a learning experience really, it did establish the three tankmen characters a little bit but mostly it was experimental oddness. Which is also why there is no dialogue.

Retrospective: I got plenty of demonic hatred from the usual group of trolls on NG for this toon, was declared a hack and the common complaint was “THESE AREN’T TANKMEN!”.
They were right, I didnt put enough character into Sarge, Visor, and Goggles. I fixed that problem the following year and got much better reviews. Oddly enough, everyone loved the mutants.
TANKMEN: TANKBUSTERS
The second episode has Sarge, Visor and Goggles relationship with eachother cemented finally. I spent 2 months working on this episode – and needed 1 day more to have a proper ending. Unfortunately that didnt happen and the ending was once again rushed, but it was more complete than the previous years ending. This was the first real Tankmen toon I did: it had a villain, decent jokes, AND a plot.
Retrospective: The fact that I had to cut out so much of the climax and ending coss me dearly in Pico Day 2009. I did have the honor of getting 6th place – but I didn’t win any prizes either.
I learned a lot about what I was capable of as an animator though, to this day, this is still one of my favorite toons. Yeah its not as funny as it should have been, it has a rushed climax and ending – but I managed to proove to myself and many others than I could indeed make a Tankmen toon. Strangly, people complained about the lack of mutants. I didn’t know people liked their Tankmen mutants so much. O.o Yes, the mutants make an appearance in “Dual”.
TANKMEN: DUAL
My last Tankmen toon, Sarge has been kidnapped by the Canadian Tankmen, and is imprisoned by Genesis. Canadian Commanders new ally and a shadow from Sarge’s past. Goggles and Visor are given the choice to let Sarge die, or try to save her. If they try to save her, they’re deserters and deserters die very fast in the post-apocalypse.
And here are the links to Dual where it was originally posted on newgrounds.
